Day 20 – Self-Control

Speak these verses over them:

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. – Proverbs 25:28

Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:6-7

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. – Romans 7:18-25

Pray that they would have self-control and that they would not give into the temptations of the devil. Pray today that this being the culmination of the fruits of the spirit would be manifest in their lives. We know that we can do nothing apart from Christ so pray that the Holy Spirit would flow so freely in their lives that they could exercise self-control over all the temptations listed in Galatians: “sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.”

  1. Dear Father, the song this morning says you are God and you don’t miss a thing. You see every detail, nothing is hidden from your sight. Please find those isis members who may be able to see truth, who are beginning to see that they are wrong, and encourage them to seek you with determination. Please let them find you, according to Jeremiah 29:13-14. Bring them out of their captivity to that demonic religion, and use them to liberate others. Thank you for what you will do today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  2. Dear Father, such sad words in Isaiah 63:5, 55:16, and 41:28–you looked and there was no man to help or seek you or intercede for your mercy and help. But you remembered and your own arm brought salvation. So I’m praying Isaiah 64 today–all of it. There are more wars and rumors of war; “In these ways we continue and we need to be saved.” Please have mercy on us, your church, your People of the Cross, your people Israel, and all those aligned against us. Bring your truth and salvation to all those trapped in islam. Please let your Kingdom come. Do it your way; please, could you do it a bit more quickly? We repent, Lord, and we ask again for your mercy and grace, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  3. Father, today my prayer for the captives in isis is that they will find within themselves the part that You put there, the part that yearns for fulfilling. The hole in their spirit that ony You can fill.
Make them restless for peace,Your peace, make them restless for Your divine intervention. Give them a thirst for righteousnes, Your righteousnes. Open their eyes for what only You can give.
You are great and awesome in power, display this in their lives. Give them divine encounters for the glory of Your Name AMEN

  4. Dear Father, the song today says you are the answer for every need or desire we have. Please let isis ask the question. Let them see their desperate need for you. Give them the ability to see the trap they are in, and the determination to really seek your truth, no matter how it conflicts with what they have always believed. Please give us the grace to pray consistently for isis and all muslims regardless of our feelings or fears. We determine and choose to obey you, Lord. Thank you for those you will save today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  5. Lord please restrain evil men and grant that they may see goodness and righteousness. And give them the strength, through Christ, to live a life of self control and love.

  6. Dear Father, thank you for your Holy Spirit whom you have given us because of Jesus. He prays on our behalf because we don’t know how to pray the way we should. I admit that–I don’t know how to pray for isis today. Please pray, dear Holy Spirit. You love these men and women. Please give them the power, love, and sound mind they need to recognize their sin and their need for salvation through Jesus. Please let your Kingdom come and your will be done today. Thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  7. Dear Father, your promises are yes and amen to us. You are totally trustworthy and we never have to wonder or worry about pleasing you because of Jesus and your awesome love. Isis has no such hope. Their slavemaster controls them with fear and lies. Open their eyes and give them grace and guts to see and accept the truth of Jesus. Please do whatever you have to do to bring them to salvation. Please protect your People of the Cross and your people Israel. Thank you for your plans for today in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  8. As much as I pray for me I pray it for manipulated and deceived ISIS members: Let us submit our lifes to the One who is stronger than us, our fleshly desires and wordly aspirations: Jesus Christ who has conquered sin and death. Lord God, you have empowered us through the Holy Spirit to have part in this victory! We pray that through it, ISIS members would put down their hatred, their washed brains and would cry out and desire for you to control their lifes in order that they may follow the path or peace and self control.

  9. Abba Father, we decree, declare and bind the evil spirits that torment the souls of terrorists – physical, spiritual, mental, emotional and sexual abuse; all word curses; all perversions; spirits of guilt, depression, procrastination, low self-esteem, oppression, rejection, rebellion, resentment, suicide, unforgiveness, hate, bitterness, arrogance, revenge, wrath, anger, murder, jealousy, poverty, fear, self-centeredness, pride, selfishness, envy and malice and renounce them all. We command ha-Satan and his evil spirits to loose and return to these tormented souls on all sides of their families back 5776 years of generations all things in every area of their lives that you and your evil spirits have stolen, killed or destroyed. We loose into these poor souls of the terrorists the Spirits of life, health, wholeness, truth, justice, fairness, righteousness, honor, loyalty, integrity, aggressiveness, ingeniousness, faith, hope, love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, Godliness, kindness, gentleness, sound minds, self-control, acceptance, and the Mind of our Messiah and may our Father have all the Glory and Honor. But above all Yehovah’s Will be Done in the Name of Yehoshua. Yehmein

  10. Heavenly father I pray that the Isis know that you are the one true god and developed an intimate relationship with you. Fill them with your spirit so that they may comprehend the length, breadth and depth of your everlasting and eternal love. May the gift of the holy spirit blaze in their lives. Lord by the working of your spirit , may they be born of the spirit so that they be blessed with self-control, which is the spirit’s gift. When you were beaten, tortured and false accusation were levelled against you, you exercised self-restraint before your opponents. Lord anoint them so that they too exercise self-restrain. Bless them Lord mightily for the proclamation of the gospel. In Jesus name I pray. alleluia.

  11. Dear Father, please let your Holy Spirit pray today. I think perhaps it’s a combination of fear, anger, shame, and confusion that is preventing me from praying with love and self control–and all that is my sin (really only part of my sin, I’m sure). I repent, Lord. I ask for mercy for me and my country today. We have prayed that you would protect your people of the Cross, and you have raised up the Russians because we have abdicated our place of moral authority. Thank you for the Christians and others who will be helped. Thank you for all those who will be saved because of this twist in events in the Middle East. I believe you will work miracles, and you will glorify your great name. We continue to pray that your Kingdom would come and your will would be done among isis and all muslims. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We thank you for your mercy and your goodness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  12. We pray that your Holy Spirit brings the desire for self-control in ISIS members. Convict their hearts each time they are about to kill, and cause self-control to come upon them. In Jesus name.

  13. Dear Father, this is the first day of September. Many of us are praying and fasting for Jerusalem and the whole mess that the world is in. We want to come boldly to your throne of grace to find that mercy and grace to help in these desperate times of need. We confess our sins and remind you of our total dependence on Jesus because he died for us while we were yet sinners. We are not better than ISIS or any other blinded ones, nor do you love us more or less than those. Please come as only you can, to draw each one to Christ. Give us grace and control over self and the flesh so we can choose Jesus. Please act today, Lord, for your own sake, because your city and your people are called your name. Thank you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  14. Thank you Father for answering the prayers of your people, as we hear of one more notorious member’s choice to flee. Grant him the strength and protection to keep fleeing without turning back. Send your agents to save him and others we wish to change. Grant them self-control. In Jesus’ name.

  15. Dear Father, sovereign Lord of the universe, Creator of everything that exists, Creator of time and eternity! The entire universe and anything else beyond is yours and under your control. You spoke and “it”–whatever “it” is–was created and it was good. You are good. When we are left to our own devices, we control ourselves based on our flesh and demonic influences. We deliberately choose the world and the things that are in the world, and love for you is not in us. Please give us grace to yield control to you. Please give these muslims grace to see their need to surrender to Jesus, not their demon god. Give them the self control to think your thoughts clearly without the interference of the lies that have been ingrained in their minds since childhood, without the “idealistic” lies on the terrorist websites they want to believe. Please come, Holy Spirit. Come with your love and your gifts and your fruit and your truth. ISIS and muslims and all of us were made to love you and be loved by you. Thank you for your love, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  16. Dear Father, I think one reason idolatry is attractive is because it’s indulging the flesh–it’s something “self” thinks it can do to achieve a reward without surrendering to Jesus. It’s total self-deception which throws open the door to satanic enslavement. I pray for you to reveal your truth today, Lord. Please give muslims the ability to see the lies they are believing, particularly during this month when they are trying to “subdue” their flesh and get closer to their god. Please save them. Please give them the grace to choose Jesus. Lord, I know what I want you to do, but I’m too often motivated by self, just like these lost ones. So I ask that your Kingdom would come and your will would be done, and I trust you to do what is best, for your glory, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

  17. Lord, in your word it is written “vengance is mine sayeth the Lord”.
I can only say….God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

  18. Heavenly Father, have mercy on the men of ISIS. You know how they have been deceived. We pray for their salvation, for their sake, for the sake of their victims, and for your glory. We pray with confidence, knowing that all things are possible for you and that it is not your desire that any should perish. We wait in hope for a great harvest from ISIS, and we praise you for each one who will come to Christ. We pray in His blessed and powerful name. Amen

  19. Dear Father, on this National Day of Prayer we lift up our nation and ask that terrorists hidden here would give up their plots of destruction and would come to you in repentance. Let them see truth. Let them turn in their leaders. Please bring change today, Almighty God. You are sovereign and you have infinite mercy on these deceived ones and on us. We repent for our sins, particularly idolatry, that have brought your judgment on us. We pray for your blessing in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  20. Dear Father, you are the one true living God of the universe. You are in absolute control of everything. These terrorists would cease to exist if you stopped thinking of them. Show them that you have given each of them a free will. Each one has the capacity to choose you. Each has the self control necessary to make that choice. None has to be enslaved to that godless demonic religion. Please open their eyes so they can clearly see what they are doing, so they can choose you. Speak to them as only you can. Bring them face-to-face with Jesus. Come and do awesome things among these men and
women existing in islamic delusion. We thank you for what you are doing and will do today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
