Day 20 – Self-Control

Speak these verses over them:

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. – Proverbs 25:28

Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:6-7

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. – Romans 7:18-25

Pray that they would have self-control and that they would not give into the temptations of the devil. Pray today that this being the culmination of the fruits of the spirit would be manifest in their lives. We know that we can do nothing apart from Christ so pray that the Holy Spirit would flow so freely in their lives that they could exercise self-control over all the temptations listed in Galatians: “sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.”

“Day 20 – Self-Control”

  1. Dear Lord I pray that each member of ISIS will realize the wonder of self control as You reveal Yourself to them more and more. May they come to know that they too can do all things through Christ who strengthens them and that NOTHING is impossible with You our God. I pray that You will transform them by the renewing of their minds and lead them to pursue only those things that are lovely, pure, good, kind, gentle and of good report. I pray that all the fruits of the Spirit will replace their thoughts of hatred, fear, violence, rape and murder. Let them no longer put their trust in their swords and bows of violence because they will not bring the victory that they are seeking. Put their adversaries to shame Lord and give them victory over their real enemy which is SATAN! Give them Your shield of victory Lord and support them with Your right hand. Your help will make them great and like us they will praise Your Name forever. Amen

  2. Dear Lord, as we hear of isis members who have shown self-control by making a bold turn to you, we continue to pray for your touch on others to convict their hearts to make the same decision for you. Lead them in your own gentle way to experience your presence. I speak victory over each member, and may the spirit of boldness and love urge them towards the light of You Father God. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
